Who said werewolves can't act like normal people?
In that case...who said filthy rich evil master mind werewolves can't behave like normal people?

Tom Harken [link] and his son Joshua enjoying a day at the beach.

A really quick pencil sketch from last night that I felt was successful so I threw some toning on it in The Gimp. (I think I'm getting entirely too giggly over this fictional man, lol)

I'm really sorry but...Joshua scares the sh** out of me. But Tom is spot on!
I do love your ability to work with all kinds of male body-types. I'm always amazed at how you can bring out someone's character just by your body placements and body types.

I like the difficulty level you attempted here. It's subtle. But going back to basics would help it work better. 1) Silhouette. You can express the same idea of the child reaching out while making the pose read clearer and immediately by including the arm in the silhouette. (If you painted the child black, would it read like a happy, excited little kid? Or a puppy? Or a teapot on a stand?)

2) Compositional balance. All the circulation of attention is in the left 1/3 to 1/2 of the panel. The right side is inactive. Either move everything over to the right and keep the space in the left side, or balance the panel by including elements that activate the right side.

Interesting mixed media technical effect - hard to believe it's digitally enhanced pencils. Looks like pen and wash with touches of acrylic white.

As funny as it is to picture a puppy teapot being drug around by this man at the beach I find myself nodding in complete agreement.

My eye kept flying to that bottom right corner and like a dumby I didn't listen to that little voice that was screaming "seashells! Something! Garbage! Signature! Dead Seal! ANYTHING!"

Thanks SD! (I think that pen effect comes from how light my sketches are: so I scan them in at a really high contrast level so that they show up...so you get a pen-effect look as opposed to the soft look of pencil)

Oh! That little voice! If only we knew when to listen and when to ignore! Hehe. (Dead seal!)

I'm glad you thought it was cute! It was just too much to pass up to not draw this scene.

Tom's right arm is a bit strange, but other than that it's a really charming little pic. Hard to imagine that goober eyed kid is going to look like that man someday :D

And it does make more sense for rich wolves to enjoy the beach instead of driving all the way to forests :3

I assume you're talking about his left arm but the viewer's right? If so: yeah...I see it. It's actually one of my usual flaws: if you look just at the arm it looks fine...though when you couple it with the rest of the image it looks disjointed and weird. It's called "viewing the image as a whole." Something that I've been trying to do for years now and still fall off the wagon.

That kid takes way more after his mother: with those popping eyes and that toe-head hair. *shakes head* I need to work on drawing kids...I can't stand being around them irl so it shows in my work, lol.

Actually, since they're located in Sacramento, CA it's a pretty much even drive either east or west to get to a national forest or the beach. :) I just figured I'd ring in the summer with a nice beach pic!
Thanks MT!

Actually, I meant 'right' as in the one nearest to us. It's shorter than usual.
For me, the issue is more with asymmetry ^^

Ah, that makes more sense. Kids can be tough to deal with indeed.

You're most welcome.
